Washington General visits troops in Iraq

Air Force Maj. Gen. Timothy J. Lowenberg, the adjutant general for the Washington National Guard, speaks to Soldiers from Headquarters Company, 81st Brigade Combat Team, Washington Army National Guard, during their combat patch ceremony Dec. 28, 2008 at Camp Ramadi, Iraq. In a tradition dating back to World War II, combat patches depicting the unit they serve with during wartime are placed on each Soldier's right sleeve. Lowenberg participated in this Army tradition while visiting 81st BCT Soldiers in Iraq. More than 2,400 members of the Washington Army National Guard's 81st BCT are deployed to various bases across Iraq, including Al-Asad, Q-West, Balad and Al-Taqaddum, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. This is the second deployment for the 81st BCT.
