Sgt. David Davis, a dental specialist with the Fort Hood Dental Activity, checks Spc. Bethlehem Meresa’s pulse during the tactical combat casualty care portion of Expert Field Medical Badge certification, May 1. During the scenario, Meresa, a medic with the 546th Area Support Medical Company, portrayed a casualty who sustained gunshot wounds to the leg and arm. She decided to take a dramatic approach to her role as a casualty and before falling unconscious from shock, Meresa told Davis, “Can you fix me up, Doc? You gotta fix me up so I can go home and see my son.” Davis seemed amused by her dramatic flair and got into character as well. He reassured her by telling her not to worry because he was going to take care of her.
