Sgt. David Davis, a dental specialist with the Fort Hood Dental Activity, high crawls to the next point on combat trauma lane one during Expert Field Medical Badge certification May 1 on Fort Hood, Texas. During a two-week period, candidates had to complete a written test; three combat trauma lanes; a day and night land navigation course; and a 12-mile road march within three hours. CTL 1 consisted of 14 tasks, which included a combination of various medical and warrior tasks. In order to pass the station, candidates had to perform 11 of the 14 tasks to perfection. The lane proved difficult for many candidates because each task was comprised of many subtasks and if candidates failed to perform one step correctly, they would fail the overall task.
