A large group of military personnel are gathered in what appears to be a base assembly hall or community center for a formal briefing or ceremony. The audience consists of sailors in both Navy Working Uniform (NWU) digital camouflage and khaki service uniforms, seated in rows facing a projection screen and stage area. Multiple military branch flags and unit insignia are displayed on the walls throughout the facility.

U.S. service members assigned to Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, (CLDJ) gathered to honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, remember those affected by the tragedy, and reflect on the events that shaped a generation of service. CLDJ serves as an expeditionary base for U.S. military forces providing support to ships, aircraft and personnel that ensure security throughout Europe, Africa and Southwest Asia. The base enables maritime and combat operations in the Horn of Africa while fostering positive U.S.-Africa relations. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Eric Stanton)
