    U.S. Army, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Fort Belvoir Garrison, and project contractor leadership stand for a photograph with the original 1957 building marker from the SM-1 Nuclear Power Plant during a project close-out ceremony marking the completion of all field activities associated with the decommissioning and dismantlement of the former plant at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, Sept. 9, 2026. The USACE Baltimore District is home to the USACE Radiological Health Physics Regional Center of Expertise, which provides radiation safety and technical support to the U.S. Army and other federal agencies at home and abroad and began fieldwork at SM-1 in 2021.
