    Brenda Barber, National Program Manager for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' (USACE) Deactivated Nuclear Power Plant Program, presents a commemorative flag to U.S. Army and USACE leadership during a project close-out ceremony marking the completion of all field activities associated with the decommissioning and dismantlement of the former SM-1 Nuclear Power Plant at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, Sept. 9, 2026. The USACE Baltimore District is home to the USACE Radiological Health Physics Regional Center of Expertise, which provides radiation safety and technical support to the U.S. Army and other federal agencies at home and abroad and began fieldwork at SM-1 in 2021.
