Members of the Alaska Air National Guard and Eielson Air Force Base Honor Guard teach fourth- and fifth-grade students about flag protocol at Salcha Elementary School in Salcha, Alaska, Sept. 1, 2026. Students examine the U.S. flag after Honor Guard members demonstrate proper flag-folding procedures, then pass the folded flag among their classmates and practice folding it themselves. The lesson included the history and significance of the U.S. flag, flag facts, proper flag folding, and procedures for raising and lowering the flag. The students are responsible for raising and lowering the flag at Salcha Elementary throughout the school year. (U.S. Air National Guard photo by Senior Master Sgt. Julie Avey)
