U.S. Airmen assigned to the 146th Civil Engineer Squadron, California Air National Guard, set up a Reverse Osmosis Water Purification Unit to create drinking water from a pond during a week-long training exercise at the 163d Regional Training Site, March Air Reserve Base, Calif., Aug. 25, 2026. The water and fuel systems maintenance specialists are responsible for operating and maintaining a ROWPU in austere locations. The exercise places civil engineers in an environment where they establish, operate, and defend a temporary encampment under simulated combat conditions, allowing Airmen to learn and test critical career-field skills. The hands-on training allows the squadron to validate their readiness and prepare for real-world operations. (U.S. Air National Guard Photograph by Senior Master Sgt. Julianne Sitterding)
