U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Jesus Becerra, 146th Civil Engineer Squadron, California Air National Guard, tosses a water line into a pond that feeds contaminated water to a Reverse Osmosis Water Purification Unit during a week-long training exercise at the 163d Regional Training Site, March Air Reserve Base, Calif., Aug. 24, 2026. Becerra is a water and fuel systems maintenance specialist responsible for operating a ROWPU to purify water in austere locations. The exercise places civil engineers in an environment where they establish, operate, and defend a temporary encampment under simulated combat conditions, allowing Airmen to learn and test critical career-field skills.
