The Red Shirt proposed wilderness area sits within Buffalo Gap National Grassland, South Dakota, May 13, 2026. The popular rockhounding location is dotted with agate beds and areas rich in wildflower diversity in spring and early summer. French Creek Campground is nearby for those who would like to stay a few days and enjoy the landscape for a longer adventure. (Forest Service photo by Charity Duggin)
