A U.S. service member from the Special Operations Command North Signal Detachment trains Alaskan National Guard Soldiers to use Barrett 4050 radio communications in Savoonga, St. Lawerence Island, Alaska, Aug. 14, 2026. SOCNORTH partnered with the Alaska National Guard, the Alaska State Defense Force and Alaska Native leaders to reestablish a high-frequency radio network during Operation Polar Dagger. Equipped with this high-frequency technology, the Alaska State Defense Force gains a dependable link between rural western hubs and Anchorage to support future emergency readiness.
