As the fire moved along the Dolores Canyon, crews relied heavily on aviation resources to keep flames from crossing the canyon into populated areas. Ignited by lightning on June 27, 2026, the Ferris Fire was a combination of three separate blazes (Far Draw, Doe Canyon, and Ferris) that merged near Narraguinnep Canyon, roughly 15 miles northwest of Dolores.
