Piles of cut beach vitex (Vitex rotundifolia) plants lie across a dune in Atlantic Beach, Florida, following a cut and spray herbicide treatment by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District and contractors. During a cut and spray treatment, the above ground vegetation is cut, and a small amount of herbicide is applied to the cut portion of the stem. It is a precision treatment that reduces the risk to surrounding vegetation and in this case was more effective at getting the herbicide to translocate into the roots. The work is part of an early-detection-and-rapid-response effort to remove isolated infestation and help restore native dune vegetation. (USACE photo)
