    Purple-flowering beach vitex (Vitex rotundifolia) forms a dense monoculture across a dune in Atlantic Beach, Florida. First identified in 2024, the invasive plant’s extensive underground runners made it difficult to control and threatened the health of the dune system. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District crews and contractors are conducting an early-detection-and-rapid-response effort to treat and monitor the isolated infestation. (USACE photo)
