More than 700 sailors and Marines are participating in CARAT Singapore. U.S. Navy units participating in CARAT Singapore include the guided-missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62), the littoral combat ship USS Freedom (LCS 1), Military Sealift Command's Lewis and Clark-class dry cargo ship USNS Washington Chambers (T-AKE 11), embarked Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 7 staff, and a U.S. Marine Corps platoon assigned to 3rd Law Enforcement Battalion. CARAT is a series of bilateral military exercises between the U.S. Navy and the armed forces of Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Timor Leste.
