A Republic of Singapore crewman waves from an S-70B Seahawk, attached to the Republic of Singapore Navy Formidable-class frigate RSS Intrepid (69), during flight operations aboard the guided-missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62). Flight operations were conducted in support of Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training Singapore 2013. More than 700 sailors and Marines are participating in CARAT Singapore. U.S. Navy units participating in CARAT Singapore include the Fitzgerald, the littoral combat ship USS Freedom (LCS 1), Military Sealift Command's Lewis and Clark-class dry cargo ship USNS Washington Chambers (T-AKE 11), a U.S. Marine Corps platoon assigned to 3rd Law Enforcement Battalion, and Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 7 staff, serving as Commander Task Force 73.1 and CARAT Commander. CARAT is a series of bilateral military exercises between the U.S. Navy and the armed forces of Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Timor Leste.
