A rooftop sprinkler sprays water across a cabin as a Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) structure protection tactic during the Brewer Fire, July 25, 2026, in Central Oregon. Deploying sprinkler systems increases localized humidity and pre-wets roofs and surrounding vegetation, preventing windblown embers from igniting the structure as the wildfire approaches. More than 2,000 lightning strikes occurred across Central Oregon on July 15, 2026, sparking many of the region's large ongoing wildfires, including the Brewer, Coyote, Rowe Creek Complex and Akawa Butte fires, which have burned more than 270,000 acres as of July 25, 2026.
