A scattered woodpile on a cabin property serves as a Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) structure protection tactic during the Brewer Fire, July 25, 2026, in Central Oregon. Dispersing stacked firewood away from structures reduces radiant heat and prevents embers from igniting high-intensity fires near the home if the wildfire encroaches. More than 2,000 lightning strikes occurred across Central Oregon on July 15, 2026, sparking many of the region's large ongoing wildfires, including the Brewer, Coyote, Rowe Creek Complex and Akawa Butte fires, which have burned more than 270,000 acres as of July 25, 2026.
