A fire engine is staged near residences as part of Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) structure protection operations during a night shift on the Brewer Fire, July 25, 2026, in Central Oregon. Crews were positioned in a small community on the fire's western edge to defend homes from approaching flames. More than 2,000 lightning strikes occurred across Central Oregon on July 15, 2026, sparking many of the region's large ongoing wildfires, including the Brewer, Coyote, Rowe Creek Complex and Akawa Butte fires, which have burned more than 270,000 acres as of July 25, 2026.
