The 2026 Europe-Mediterranean Disinterment team follows a transfer case carrying disinterred remains at the Florence American Cemetery in Via Cassia, Italy, June 17, 2026. The remains will be carefully cleaned and sealed in a protective bag before being returned to the transfer case and sent back to the laboratory in Offutt Air Force Base for further analyses and potential identification. Advanced forensic techniques, including DNA analysis, anthropological examination, and dental comparisons are used to analyze the remains and compare them to the physiological, dental, and DNA family reference sample information of the historical candidates for potential identification.
