U.S. service members with the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team, U.S. Special Operations Command Para-Commandos, U.S. Navy Special Warfare, and U.S. Air Force special operations pack parachutes at Aéroport de Cherbourg-Manche, France, prior to a commemorative airborne operation, June 7, 2026. The legacy airborne jump over Normandy connected them with the historic airborne operations that helped change the course of World War II. From June 2-7, 2026, more than 600 U.S. Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Guardians and Airmen from roughly 17 units historically linked to D-Day made up Joint Task Force 82 and participated in over 90 commemorative events throughout the Normandy Region.
