NAVAL STATION GREAT LAKES (April 9, 2026) — The Honorable Benjamin C. Kohlmann, Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Manpower and Reserve Affairs (ASN M&RA), greets and presents a challenge coin to Surface Warfare Engineering School Command (SWESC) Great Lakes' Emmy Powell for her outstanding accomplishments as the command's contract officer representative during a visit to the training command, Apr. 9, on board Naval Station Great Lakes. The purpose of Kohlmann's visit is to meet with leadership and assess the current state of innovative instructional methods within the Navy's training pipeline. SWESC is responsible for providing technical training to every surface Navy engineer, quartermaster, boatswain and deck seaman; preparing each Sailor to perform on U.S. Navy ships operating around the globe.
