U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Alexander Avalos, Team Leader for Recovery Team 3, part of Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency Joint Field Activity 26-3LA, thanks the local Lao workers who provided support to the team during recovery operations in Laos, March 27, 2026. Avalos is part of the Indo-Pacific Directorate of DPAA. Local workers worked with the U.S. recovery team in support of the DPAA mission to provide the fullest possible accounting of missing U.S. personnel to their families and the nation. Currently there are 1,566 personnel unaccounted for from the Vietnam War, 280 of those unresolved cases are located in Laos. (U.S. Air Force Photo by Lt. Col. George Tobias)
