U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Saowalak Wester, linguist for Recovery Team 3, part of Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency Joint Field Activity 26-3LA, wet-screens for evidence with local Lao workers during during recovery operations at a recovery site in Laos, March 26, 2026. Material from excavated units are transferred to screening stations where U.S. personnel and local workers search for aircraft wreckage, life support material and possible remains. Wester is part of the Indo-Pacific Directorate of DPAA. Currently there are 1,566 personnel unaccounted for from the Vietnam War, 280 of those unresolved cases are located in Laos.
