Gering, the 38th Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps, speaks to Marines assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border (JTF-SB) during a visit to the San Diego sector, Calif., Feb. 18, 2026. Leadership visits provide senior leaders with firsthand insight into the JTF-SB mission and allow them to emphasize the importance of the Marines' contribution to securing the U.S. southern border. U.S. Northern Command is working side-by-side with the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection within narrowly defined authorities to provide unique military capabilities to protect the territorial integrity of the U.S. southern border.
