    U.S. Navy Capt. Stephan Valerio, commanding officer, of the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock USS San Diego (LPD 22) discuses operations with U.S. Marine Corps Brig. Gen. Robert Brodie, commanding general of the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade, during routine operations off of the coast of Okinawa, Japan, Feb. 2, 2026. Brig. Gen. Brodie visited the USS San Diego to observe the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit conduct routine amphibious combat vehicle operations. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force, ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premiere crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
