Shasta-Trinity National Forest packers, Erik Cordtz, far left, and Matt Carson, center, pack a Back Country Conservation Corps camp out of the Trinity Alps, September 2011. The crew goes into the woods in April and comes out mid-September every year. This crew performs the majority of the trail maintenance within the Trinity Alps helping to preserve wildness and protecting the resource while providing safe access for the public. USDA Forest Service employees trained in the skill of pack (horse and mule) stock management, trail riding, animal care, load management, rope tying, and more, lead animal trains, loaded with hundreds of pounds of supplies, from cabin to life support to cleaning to trail maintenance to wildlife repopulation to firefighting.
