July 11, 2023. Axel retired from service as a military
working dog, July 25, 2025, from the 52nd Security
Forces Squadron, at Spangdahlem Air Base,
Germany, and was adopted by Nelson, who was his
seventh handler. While in service, Axel participated
in 18 U.S. Secret Service missions in partnership
