Dr. Stephen Ferrara, acting assistant secretary of defense for health affairs, presents an award for outstanding research accomplishment for a team to Justin Handy, research psychologist at Naval Submarine Medical Research Laboratory, at the 2025 Military Health System Research Symposium in Kissimmee, Florida, on Aug. 4. Handy led the Naval Psychological Readiness and Human Performance team from the Naval Submarine Medical Research Laboratory. The team was honored in the research category, “Undersea Operational Research Panel”for transitioning multiple evidence-based fleet deliverables that improved submariner and nuclear-operator screening, career prediction, and individual coaching to foster readiness, professional development, leadership, team performance, and retention.
