The Yolo Bypass, located within Yolo County, California, is a large floodplain area designed to divert floodwaters from the Sacramento River away from Sacramento and other nearby communities. The Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area also encompasses a significant portion of the bypass and offers a wide variety of both pastoral scenery and wildlife viewing opportunities.
The Yolo Bypass receives water from the Feather River during times of high flow. The Feather River is one of the major rivers that contribute to the flooding that the Yolo Bypass is designed to manage. When the Sacramento and Feather Rivers reach high levels, water flows over weirs and into the bypass.
