The Yolo Bypass, located within Yolo County, California, is a large floodplain area designed to divert floodwaters from the Sacramento River away from Sacramento and other nearby communities. The Yolo Bypass Wildlife Area also encompasses a significant portion of the bypass and offers a wide variety of both pastoral scenery and wildlife viewing opportunities. Here a Turkey Vulture makes pass looking for a meal. They are primarily carrion eaters, meaning they mainly feed on dead animals. They are nature's clean-up crew, consuming a wide variety of carcasses, including mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish.
