Blake Ayala, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency scientific recovery expert, peers through a clinometer compass during a pre-deployment site survey in Vietnam, May 24, 2025. A clinometer is a tool used to measure angles of elevation or slope, DPAA SRE’s are the subject matter experts on a recovery site, determining the locations where team members excavate and the techniques they use in pursuit of fulfilling our nation's promise. This mission is focused on accounting for those who remain missing from the Vietnam War where there are currently 1,567 U.S. personnel who remain unaccounted-for.
