Col. Melissa Cantwell, U.S. Army Garrison Fort Hamilton commander, presents the Good Neighbor Award to Thomas Geene and Gregory Henderson alongside Trevor Loew, Hamilton's Morale, Welfare and Recreation director, during the installation's bicentennial celebration June 13. The award honors individuals who enhance the quality of life for soldiers and their families or provide exceptional support to Fort Hamilton's missions.
Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, N.Y., the fourth-oldest active Army installation, marked its 200th anniversary with a concert, special enlistment ceremony, music and fireworks show, leading into the U.S. Army's 250th birthday June 14. Established in 1825, the installation evolved from a harbor defense site to a key military hub supporting Defense Department personnel, the Army National Guard and the Army Reserve while protecting New York City's people, land and commerce.
