Brig. Gen. Sara Dudley, deputy commanding general of operations for U.S. Army Recruiting Command, administered the Oath of Enlistment to new recruits June 13 at Fort Hamilton Bluff during the installation's 200th anniversary celebration and the U.S. Army's 250th birthday. As they pledged to serve, they joined a lineage of warfighters dating back to Fort Hamilton's earliest days, when soldiers stood watch over New York Harbor and the Army's founders forged the path of "This We'll Defend." The Army's official birthday followed June 14.
Established in 1825, the installation played a critical role in national defense, evolving from a harbor defense site to a key military hub supporting Defense Department personnel, the Army National Guard and the Army Reserve. It remains vital to New York City, continuing its legacy of protecting the city's people, land and commerce while shaping the future of military service.
