Col. Melissa Cantwell, U.S. Army Garrison Fort Hamilton commander, and Stacy Lloyd, Fort Hamilton Community Spouses Foundation honorary president, unveil a commemorative plaque for the garrison's bicentennial June 13, which also recognizes the U.S. Army's 250th birthday June 14. The plaque acknowledges the installation's bicentennial and Army's 250th birthday, and the contributions of soldiers and civilians throughout the installation's history. Fort Hamilton Morale, Welfare and Recreation worked with the Fort Hamilton Community Spouses Foundation on the plaque, which was installed on the entrance wall of the Fort Hamilton Community Club and unveiled prior to the evening events.
Established in 1825, the installation evolved from a harbor defense site to a key military hub supporting Defense Department personnel, the Army National Guard and the Army Reserve while protecting New York City's people, land, and commerce.
