Officer candidates and cadre from the Illinois Army National Guard’s Officer Candidate School Class 70-25 ride a bus through Fort Donelson National Battlefield in Dover, Tennessee, March 17, 2025. The staff ride gave officer candidates the opportunity to learn lessons from the past by walking the terrain and examining the critical leadership decisions made during the 1862 battle. The visit included battlefield presentations, group discussions, and historical context provided by National Park Service staff.
