Officer Candidates Lucero Zempoaltecatl, Maggie Mui, Linda Mora, and Amy Feher review their presentation notes at a battlefield stand during a staff ride to Fort Donelson National Battlefield in Dover, Tennessee, March 16, 2025. Each member of OCS Class 70-25 was assigned a Union or Confederate leader from the 1862 battle and tasked with delivering an analytical brief on their strategic and tactical decisions. The staff ride allowed officer candidates from the Illinois Army National Guard to directly connect military history with modern leadership principles while gaining real-world experience in operational planning, logistics, and terrain analysis.
