U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. John McElroy, an intelligence specialist with 2d Intelligence Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group, II MEF, is recognized as the Noncommissioned Officer of the Year for II MEF at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Feb. 27, 2025. “Although I worked hard in my job, it was never about the recognition,” said McElroy, a native of South Setauket, New York. “It was always about putting my Marines and the mission first.” The Noncommissioned Officer of the Year distinction recognizes Marines who exceed expectations and have contributed significantly to the mission effectiveness of their unit.
