Soldiers assigned to the 41st Engineer Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, run the Mogadishu Mile Oct. 8, 2024, on Fort Drum, New York. This event was held to pay tribute to those who served and sacrificed during what at the time was considered to be the U.S. Army’s longest firefight since the Vietnam War, and the 10th Mountain Division's role in rescuing Soldiers involved in the conflict. Soldiers who took part honored those who served and sacrificed during the battle. The event recognizes the 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment and 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment Soldiers who fought in the Battle of Mogadishu during Operation Restore Hope in Somalia.
