The event was held to commemorate what was regarded at the time as the U.S. Army’s longest continuous firefight since the Vietnam war and honor the sacrifice of Pfc. James Martin Jr., 2-14 IN and Sgt. Cornell Houston with 41st Engineer Battalion, 2/10 IBCT, highlighting the 10th Mountain Division's role in rescuing Soldiers involved in the conflict.
