Soldiers assigned to the 41st Engineer Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, run the Mogadishu Mile on Fort Drum, New York, Oct. 8, 2024. The event was held to honor a historic moment for the U.S. Army, which is recognized as the Army's longest-sustained firefight, and the 10th Mountain Division's role in rescuing Soldiers involved in the conflict. Soldiers who participated honored those who served and sacrificed during the conflict. The event was held to commemorate what was regarded at the time as the U.S. Army’s longest continuous firefight since the Vietnam War and honor the sacrifice of Pfc. James Martin Jr., 2-14 IN and Sgt. Cornell Houston, 41st Engineer Battalion, 2/10 IBCT, highlighting the 10th Mountain Division's role in rescuing Soldiers involved in the conflict.
