These bones are the right scapula and proximal humerus of Cpl. Henry Pinney, Co. H, 1st Missouri Light Artillery. Pinney sustained a gunshot wound during the Battle of Shiloh, Tennessee, on April 6, 1862. The bullet passed through his humerus and lodged in his scapula. Both bones exhibit osteomyelitis. The plaque-like new bone formation over the surface of the scapula is a response to inflammation. [AFIP 0285988] (Disclosure: This image has been cropped to emphasize the subject.)
