    This is the right tibia of Pvt. John Shaw, Co. I, 111th New York Infantry. Shaw sustained a gunshot wound in his leg during the Battle of Gettysburg on July 3, 1863. He developed osteomyelitis, and abscesses formed around his knee. His health declined, and his leg was amputated nine years after the initial injury.
