This #FortRileyFriday we return to Godfrey Court. The majority of Godfrey Court, located south of Godfrey Avenue and between Pershing Ave. and Lowe Place, was built in 1930. Nine duplexes of brick construction joined two earlier-built limestone duplexes arranged in a horseshoe pattern around a central courtyard to create the neighborhood. Meanwhile, Godfrey Court’s two twin limestone duplexes (425 & 426 Lowe Place) were built in 1909 during the building program associated with the establishment of the Cavalry and Artillery Schools at Fort Riley.
Both twin buildings were built in 1909 as NCO Quarters. They were constructed with limestone walls and foundations, slate roofs and wood floors. These duplexes have served as family housing since their construction.
