A U.S. Air force F-80C Shooting Star assigned to the 51st Fighter-Interceptor Wing, takes off from Suwon Air Base, Republic of Korea, with the assistance of a JATO bottle circa October 1951. On Dec. 15, 1950, to aid in the defense of the U.S. Army the 51st Fighter-Interceptor Wing flew F-80C Shooting Stars, signifying the start of a week-long close air support mission for the 2nd Infantry Division withdrawal from North Korea.
