The U.S. Ambassador to Montenegro, Judy Rising Reinke, visited the Port of Adria, May 15, 2023, observing Soldiers from the 793rd Movement Control Team, 510th Regional Support Group, 7th Mission Support Command, Sailors from U.S. Navy Cargo Handling Battalion-1 and Minnesota National Guardsmen from the 34th Infantry Division as they performed port operations in support of exercise Immediate Response, one of three linked exercises in the Defender Europe series. Exercises like DEFENDER-23 demonstrate the invaluable role of U.S. Army Reserve assets in supporting U.S. Army Europe and Africa missions across the globe.
Immediate Response 23 takes place 22 May – 2 June and begins with the deployment of a combat credible force consisting of the Minnesota National Guard’s 34th Infantry Division Headquarters, an Infantry Battalion Task Force, and other enablers from the U.S. to Europe. After completing reception, staging, and onward movement (RSOM), the units draw equipment from Army Prepositioned Stocks, and conduct multi-national combined arms training in the Balkans. Counties participating in Immediate Response include: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovenia, and the United States. Immediate Response includes approximately 2,800 U.S. and 7,000 multi-national participants takes place primarily in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Slovenia.
