United States Marines and partner nations observe multinational teams as they participate in a ‘Marine of Steel’ event, during a sports day at Ilha do Governador, Rio de Janeiro, Sept. 4, 2022. The event consisted of five-man teams from Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Jamaica, Paraguay, the United States of America, and Uruguay who participated in a competition across a one-kilometer course, and eight exercise stations, including sprints, fireman carries, tire flips, swimming, box jumps, and weight lifting to test their strength while building international comradery. UNITAS, which is Latin for ‘unity,’ trains forces from across the globe in South America to conduct joint maritime operations through the execution of anti-surface, anti-submarine, anti-air, amphibious, and electronic warfare operations that enhance warfighting proficiency and increase interoperability among participating navy and marine forces.
