Members of the Applied Physics Lab Ice Station camp mine ice for fresh water from the Arctic Ocean located approximately 200 nautical miles North East of Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. With the support from the Applied Physics Laboratory, University of Washington, Ice Exercise (ICEX 2009) enables the Submarine Force to operate and train in the challenging and unique environment that characterizes the Arctic region.
