Sundogs appear in the early morning sky while personnel from the Applied Physics Lab Ice Station gear up for a day's work. Sundogs appear when the sun's rays reflect off ice crystals that are blown by the wind and create a rainbow-like affect. With the support from the Applied Physics Laboratory, University of Washington, Ice Exercise (ICEX 2009) enables the Submarine Force to operate and train in the challenging and unique environment that characterizes the Arctic region.
