Assistant Range Safety Officer Hector Castillo from the Navy's Applied Submarine Lab monitors the surfacing of the Los Angeles-class attack submarine USS Annapolis (SSN 760) while participating in Ice Exercise (ICEX 2009) in the Arctic Ocean. With the support from the Applied Physics Laboratory, University of Washington, Ice Exercise (ICEX 2009) enables the Submarine Force to operate and train in the challenging and unique environment that characterizes the Arctic region.
